My doctor said that my blood work results were the best that he had ever seen in any patient without taking medication in his career
A friend of mine talked me into taking my first Bikram yoga class in June of 2010. She asked me to join her for a ‘hot yoga’ experience. I remember asking her about the class and she told me I would get a great workout and sweat a lot. I thought ‘GREAT’! Who doesn’t love a good sweat? I was a runner at the time and thought this would be a great way for me to stretch after my runs. However, I did not anticipate that the Bikram class was going to be harder than my run! I had taken some yoga classes in the past, but this was completely different. Once we finished the standing series, I was hooked. I had no idea you could get a cardio workout while doing yoga. By my first yoga anniversary, I knew I wanted to be a teacher but worked a corporate job at the time so there was absolutely no way I would be able to take 9 weeks off for teacher training. But where there is a will….there is always a way. I left my corporate job that following spring and signed up for the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training Spring 2012. During my physical for admission to Bikram Yoga Teacher Training, I received some amazing results from my blood work. My doctor was so happy with my blood work numbers; he started asking me about what I was doing different. I knew I felt great but I had no idea that Bikram yoga was working magic on my blood work results and overall health. My doctor said that my blood work results were the best that he had ever seen in any patient without taking medication in his career. Yoga has relieved my pain in my joints, neck, and back. I can’t imagine not practicing this yoga for the rest of my life. I love teaching and networking with other yogis who are as passionate about Bikram as I am. My journey with Bikram yoga has been transformational in so many ways. At the end of the day I want to be healthy and happy, and Bikram Yoga helps me achieve these goals. This is a perfect combination of strengthening exercises, cardio, and stretching topped with a 90-minute meditation and stress reducer. My hope is that everyone gives this practice at least a try. You might just love it too!
