Even though I would consider myself fairly active and have managed my weight pretty well, I have been taking blood pressure medication for the last ten years. My doctor advised that it was most likely a genetic condition since we couldn’t come up with a lifestyle related cause. This appeared to be something that I would just have to live with. After reading about all of the potential health benbefits, I started Bikram classes in September. Just out of curiosity, I checked my blood pressure after class and found to my surprise that it had dropped roughly 10 points! After monitoring for a few weeks, I noticed that my regular readings – not just following class – also started to drop. After conferring with my doctor, I decided to stop taking my medication. Nearly two months later, readings remain within normal levels. Of course, my flexibility and balance have also improved significantly. Hats off to the Bikram staff for all of your support and to Bikram himself for propagating what appears to be a very therapeutic yoga system.
